Synthetic Marijuana

ST. LOUIS — Seated at a hookah lounge in the Tower Grove district, Albert Kuo trained his lighter above a marbleized glass pipe stuffed with synthetic marijuana. Inhaling deeply, Mr. Kuo, an art student at an area college, singed the pipe’s leafy contents, emitting a musky cloud of smoke into the afternoon light.

Mr. Kuo, 25, had gathered here with a small cohort of friends for what could be the last time they legally get high in Missouri on a substance known popularly as K2, a blend of herbs treated with synthetic marijuana.

Read the rest here. One lesson seems to be that technology allows the private sector to circumvent government limits on private behavior.

Contrary to popular belief, K2 isn’t really synthetic THC. That claim seems a little farfetched to me. As a pot smoker who has experimented with K2, I have to say that K2 is far worse than pot. K2 tastes awful and it smells even worse, the high isn’t very good, and it’s possible to get waaaay to high off of K2. On the other hand, pot has a rather pleasant taste/smell, unless you’re smoking something like skunk, and a pot high is very pleasant. The worst that can happen from pot when you smoke “too much” is that you’ll fall asleep and then wake up and eat everything in your fridge. Pot is a very mild drug that should be legalized, if only to drive legal herbs like K2, lion’s tail, and salvia off the market.

  • The amount of synthetic cannabinoids in an herbal incense blend varies which I think explains the wide range of reactions to it.

I’m 21, I am a regular marijuana user, couple or few times a week. I also have experimented with psychedelics like LSD multiple times before with no bad trips or reactions to it, just pleasant inner peace moments and a change in the way I see things for the better. Last night I was at a camp fire with some friends when someone passed around a bowl of “Synthetic Weed” because no one had the real stuff. Being experienced with all the things I have tried in the past I didn’t think twice about trying it after all it is legal. I was sipping on my wine and took 4 or 5 big hits since it seemed less harsh than real weed. I felt kind of a weird high for about 5 minutes after then things started to go down hill very fast. My heart beat started to race uncontrollably it was all I could hear, I started to sweat, my vision was almost black and I felt like I would be a vegetable for the rest of my life. It was absolutely horrifying. Stay away..
