A Punishment That Fits the Crime?

My writings on drug legalization seem to generate a lot of interest from college and high school students (surprise). Thus, I get many emails from students posing questions about my research, or requesting an intereview, or asking for a reprint.
One high school student with whom I corresponded recently just sent me the following:
Sorry I never thanked you for talking to me about marijuana legalization. I got my internet privileges taken away for, funnily enough, smoking marijuana. So anyways, thanks.
I wonder if his parents see the humor!

Acid throwing is one of the most heinous crimes. Now -a days it is very rampant in our world. Acid throwing is an inhuman and barbarous act. It turns a man into beast.

I watched you tonite on Stossel. I find it ironic you can talked about Ann Colter and her inability to think logically about legalizing drugs.
In my opinion, you don’t have the ability to see through you libertarian views to see the whole picture.
From your comments, I don’t think you have ever gone out late at night looking for your friend who got caught up in the drug lifestyle, pulled him out of the gutter, watched as he went crazy and suffered tremendously through the high, and suffered even more as he went down.
I don’t think you have family who “only do marijuana”. Surely it is mild and is a soft drug. Well I have had a successful military career, and am successful in business, all the while they (4 of them) still sit in their mom’s home, smoking dope and not harming anyone.
I am sure my buddies serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as other places around the world smoking a little dope before the go out on a mission. Maybe he could smoke a little crack, snort some cocaine, even better let him shoot up heroine. Yeah, that’s the guy I want to have my back. Maybe the fire department smoked a little weed about the time your house caught on fire.
I know, I know, you will bring up the alcohol aurgument. Sorry, not the same high, not the same drug, not the same effects, not the same end results.
Think logically about drugs? Maybe you should go to a detox center and see what happens to those who have destroyed themselves, as well as those around them and maybe then, you will see beyond the end of your nose and what the truth about drugs, marijuana included.
If I find any of my employees smoking or doing drugs, they will be terminated, no questions, no exceptions, no sympathy.
Drugs are an issue that effects everyone, not just the user.

It only effects everyone because of the illegality of the drugs… our nation has become ignorant when it comes to drugs! if you think alcohol is heather for you then you need to do some research and focus on research that isn’t government supported.

I never said alcohol was healthier. I said it was a different high, not the same drug and not the same results,
I don’t think we have become ignorant about drugs because they are illegal, I think activists would like us to think this to be the truth.
If you truely believe drugs don’t effect everyone, there is most likely no aurgument you will accept as reasonable.
Lastly, I did not cite any government study, I cited actual real life experience.
I do find it interesting how you interpreted my comments and changed my comments only to support your side of the debate.
